January 16 marks the world day of The Beatles, the legendary Fab Four that has conquered all continents since the 60s of the XX century. On this day, the famous “Yesterday”, “Yellow Submarine”, “Let It Be” and other hits of one of the most popular music groups of all time are played from headphones and speakers.,
Several events in the band's history are connected with this date: on January 16, 1957, The Cavern club opened in Liverpool, where then-unknown young musicians John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison began their journey to fame. They first performed in different bands, and a few years later they were joined by another future Beatle, Ringo Starr. Since then, the triumphant march of Beatle songs around the world has begun. Starting with imitating the classics of American rock and roll (the work of Elvis Presley had a great influence on the four), The Beatles came to their own style.
The band had a great influence on the development of world music. According to the influential music magazine Rolling Stone, The Beatles ranks first in the list of the greatest artists of all time.
What is the secret of the pop cultural phenomenon of The Beatles, because they have become one of the main symbols of the 20th century? Probably because the Beatles' songs are understandable to everyone, they are beautiful and harmonious. You can dance to them, dream, be sad, love – do anything you want. At the same time, the Liverpool quartet had a wide musical range, from rhythm and blues and folk to psychedelic and even hard rock, foreshadowed by the Beatles, and influenced by Eastern and Indian cultures. And the musicians used a variety of instruments. Of course, there would have been no success without the great talent and energy of Lennon, Macartney, Harrison and Star, plus the successful production of Brian Epstein. And, of course, it was the mood of the cultural revolution that prevailed in Europe and America in the 60s, and then the beauty and originality of the compositions and the very stage image of the Beatles musicians made them immortal. In just 7 years, the band has recorded 13 great and different albums, and this is an absolute world record.
Does KNRTU like the Beatles?
Alexander Sirotkin, Professor, Director of the Institute of Food Production and Biotechnology:
– I don't belong to the Beatles generation and I don't belong to the Beatles fans, but I clearly understand that for me the Beatles are the universe from which rock and roll music was born, and not only that. An incredibly diverse book, each page of which is filled with high-quality content and excellent printing. The Beatles are the root of musical preferences of different generations. The Beatles are our everything, it's super emotion, it's musical happiness with a full–fledged "menu" of the most delicious dishes of McCartney and Lennon, ripe raisins and original Harrison cream, the cherry on Starr's cake. The Beatles are many masterpieces after them. Listen to Forever Eurythmics, Ozzy Osbourne's Ordinary Man, written 20-40 years later, and everything will become clear. The Beatles are conceptual. In their 13 albums, they formed face of rock music and gave their brilliant descendants the opportunity to write it further. Even the names of their songs are sweet to the ear (Penny lane, Strawberry fields forever, I follow the sun...), their music is fervent and sad, philosophical and heartfelt ... Their "strawberry fields" are forever. They were created on time and will remain for all time.
Oksana Lavrova, Associate Professor of the Department of Organic Chemistry named after A. E. Arbuzov:
– Since childhood, I've really liked the Beatles band thanks to my dad – it was he who first introduced me to the work of the legendary four, which has become a symbol of an entire era. I remember how we often sat at home together, listened to records and enjoyed every note. I especially like several songs: the song Yesterday is gentle, a little melancholic and at the same time very simple and sincere; the song Let It Be is a song of calmness, confidence in the future. And Hey Jude seems to tell us the way to overcome difficulties and achieve happiness. The Beatles have left an indelible mark on the history of music and on my soul!
Julia Ziyatdinova, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages, Director of the Institute of Additional Professional Education:
– When I studied at the Kazan Pedagogical Institute, the song Yesterday was traditionally taught by all students, and some masterpieces, such as Girl, literally "went to the people", there were even parodies of them. And today the legendary songs of The Beatles are loved all over the world.
Daria Adamovich, head of the vocal circle of the KNRTU Cultural and Leisure Studio:
– Perhaps, every lover of good live music is familiar with the music of the legendary Liverpool four. But I especially like Paul McCartney's solo work, which is more recent and mature. In particular, his album Egypt Station 2018, a song from which I even translated into Russian called Hand in hand and performed with my students for the City Freshman Day and the Republican Student Spring. Paul McCartney is a brilliant melodist, the motifs of his songs are memorable, stand out for their individuality, beauty and at the same time simplicity. It seems to me that the secret of The Beatles' worldwide popularity partly lies in this.
And here's how heavy rock fan Amir Shamsimukhametov, a 3rd-year student at the Institute of Innovation Management, talks about the Beatles' music:
– The Beatles have very beautiful songs, it's nice to listen to them, even though I like heavier ones.… The band is, of course, the greatest, and a huge plus of the Beatles' music is its measured sound, melodiousness without fanaticism and meticulousness, this music is very relaxing after listening to the album with roaring guitars.
Daria Shineleva, 3rd year student at IUI:
– The Beatles' songs have an interesting sound, I definitely like it, as well as the fact that their music stays topical.
