The results of the Emerging Economies University Rankings 2020, comprised by the British Times Higher Education, have been published. The list of leading universities includes universities of countries with emerging economies according to the FTSE Group classification, which includes all BRICS countries (Russia is classified as a "second-growth" economy, along with China, India, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, etc.)
The rating methodology is based on the same performance indicators used in the global Times Higher Education Rankings, but the calculation takes into account the specifics of developing countries. Performance indicators are grouped into five areas: teaching (learning environment), research (scope, revenue, and reputation), citation (research impact), international engagement (employees, students and research), and income from production / innovation (knowledge transfer).
As the previous year, the Republic of Tatarstan is represented in the ranking by KFU (ranked134) and KNRTU (401-500). It should be noted that this year the list of evaluated universities has significantly expanded — from 442 to 533, and the number of Russian universities included in this list has increased from 35 to 39. In terms of points, the situation over the past year has not changed fundamentally, but KNRTU has improved its performance in almost all groups of indicators: teaching — from 16.1 to 17.8, research — from 7.3 to 8.4, international engagement — from 23.4 to 25, income from production activities — from 48.0 to 49.0.
In the 2020 ranking, our University ranked 28th among the Russian universities. For reference, in the 2019 Interfax national universities rankings, KNRTU was ranked 29th.
