The letter of congratulation by Acting Rector Yury M. Kazakov.
Dear students, faculty and staff members, alumni and partners of Kazan National Research Technological University!
I would like to heartily congratulate you on KNRTU’s 130th anniversary. We are the oldest engineering university in the Republic of Tatarstan, a true breeding ground for high-end engineers!
On June 26, 1890 Emperor Alexander III ruled to establish Kazan Industrial College – the first Industrial College in the Volga region. KNRTU we know today is built upon this legacy and continues its traditions. In 1919, Kazan Industrial College became Kazan Polytechnic Institute and 90 years ago in 1930 it obtained a status of Kazan Chemical Technological Institute. The establishment the Institute was a prominent milestone in the country’s industrialization and a solid ground for the Russian science.
At the end of the XX century, Kazan Chemical and Technological Institute became a multidisciplinary research and educational centre, and it was the first of the Russian engineering institutes to obtain a new status and become a State Technological University. As a cutting edge technological centre of innovative development, in 2010 we became a National Research University. It is emblematic that we are celebrating our anniversary together with the 100th anniversary of Tatar ASSR. We are proud that KNRTU professors, such as A.E. Arbuzov, G.H. Kamay,H.M. Mushtari, P.A. Kirpichnikov and many others, were an integral part of the history of Tatarstan and Russia.
Throughout its history, KNRTU was in the forefront of innovation in research and academia through collaboration with industrial enterprises. More than 100 000 of KNRTU alumni – engineers, entrepreneurs, researchers, leaders and mentors – have contributed to the development of Russia and other countries as well.
We will continue to advance. Behind us there is wisdom, experience of generations and vigour of youth. And I am convinced that there is a bright future head of us! Our strength lies in talented researchers, leaders of scientific schools of thought, faculty and staff members who are devoted to our University, science and education!
KNRTU and our alumni today have enormous potential, great aspirations and real opportunities to grow, advance, foster research projects and R&D, scale up cooperation with the industry and broaden international partnership.
KNRTU is home for all of us, and it is always open for dear friends! I wish us all great enthusiasm and inspiration, professional success and victories, good health and prosperity!
Happy anniversary, KNRTU!
Acting Rector Yury М. Kazakov
