Horizon 2020 is the main financial instrument implementing Innovation Union, one of the Europe 2020 flagship initiatives aimed at securing Europe’s global competitiveness. It helps to bridge the gap between research and the market by helping innovative enterprises develop their scientific and technological breakthroughs into viable products and services with real commercial potential. Funding provided by Horizon 2020 is easier to access thanks to simpler, streamlined programs, a single set of rules and less red tape.
The European Union and Russia are both world leaders in the generation of scientific insights. The EU produces a third of the world’s scientific knowledge and is at the forefront in many research areas. Russia has a long and proud history as one of the world’s leading scientific nations and is a founding father of many of today’s scientific schools and knowledge.
EU and Russian Leaders jointly agreed to make 2014 the EU-Russia Year of Science in order to celebrate the vibrant and multifaceted science and technology cooperation between Russia, the EU and EU Member States. In the course of twelve months, a rich program of events and initiatives in both Europe and Russia will highlight the long-standing achievements, successes, and the strong potential for future cooperation in science, innovation and higher education.
